Dreamy landscapes, like a trip to Monument Valley, are created by Dave Liebman
with his soprano sax and wood flute teaming up with Matt Vashlishan/synth,
Bobby Avey/p, Tony Marino/b and Alex Ritz/dr. Everyone gets a chance for some
solos on their own “Interludes” with each artist creating rich pastel
atmospheres. A pair of “Earth Themes” book-end the entire episode, sounding a
bit like vintage Weather Report with a mix of exotic and space effects. The
team gets electric on “Galaxy” and assertive over Marino’s bass on “Concrete
Jungle” with fluffy dreams hovering on “Grand Canyon/Mt. Everest” and gentle
shifting sands on “The Sahara”. This planet never sounded better.
