CLEANING:
RECORD CLEANING MACHINE: Record Doctor V (vacuum RCM)
RECORD CLEANING LIQUID: Audio Intelligent Enzymatic Formula and Super Cleaner. Records were first cleaned using the enzymatic formula by wetting and brushing it for at least 3 minutes. After vacuuming the enzymatic formula, the super cleaner is applied and brushed over the record for 1 minute, then vacuumed off. Newly cleaned records were stored in Diskeeper Ultimate inner sleeves.
STYLUS CLEANING: Onzow Zerodust, applied every time one side finished playing.

RIPPING:
1. Record in 24/96 to Audition
2. iZotope DeClicker and Audition's built-in declicker plugin were used to manually eliminate clicks and pops. Low frequency rumble <20Hz was deleted. After cleaning, fix stereo imbalance (if any), normalize to -0.1dB.
3. Separate individual tracks, export as WAV, tag in kid3 using Discogs data, convert to FLAC in XLD using compression level 8.

Ace private press city pop/jazz fusion LP made as a graduation project of Takashi Fujii (藤井卓), a student at Osaka Photographic College's Sound Department, featuring the band Love Play. Takashi Fujii's personal liner notes documented the trials and tribulations of recording this album, including the lengthy recording time, logistical and technical issues with the studio and sound equipment, and the learning process of recording and mixing a real-life band. Love Play itself was a band formed in March 1981 by university students Seiji Miyahira (宮平誠司, bass) and Takahiro Yamagami (山上隆弘, drums). Other members joined later, forming the current lineup by June 1982. At that point, iterations of the band have been touring the university festival circuit and have been winning awards from Yamaha for best bassist and keyboardist. Way more details can be read on their extensive liner notes (three in total!) albeit in Japanese, including mentions of influences by Modern Jazz Quartet and Santana. The music itself definitely has a live house feel to it, all mastered with fat bass and hard-hitting drums. Personally, the star of the LP is the title track, "Midnight Driver", but the whole album is great, evoking feelings of driving late at night.
