In 1982, dissatisfied with UFO's commercialization, Pete Way left his band and formed a project called Fastway with Motorhead alum Eddie Clarke. However, by the time the sessions began, the bassist was already touring with Ozzy Osbourne, and upon returning from the road, he formed a new band, Waysted. Its original lineup also included guitarist Ronnie Cayfield (ex-Heartbreakers), keyboardist Paul Raymond (ex-UFO), vocalist Finn (ex-Flying Squad), and drummer Frank Noone (ex-Stampede, Wild Horses, Def Leppard). Having signed with Chrysalis Records, the band recorded their debut album, distinguished by its powerful guitar work and Finn's whiskey-soaked vocals. "Vices" was produced by Mick Glossop, who also worked on the UFO-esque "Making Contact"
